Comfort on modern yachts and ships has become a very important requirement in the past years. The flexible bearing is a first step which is not enough on its own. Flexible CENTA couplings between gear and propeller shaft dampen torsional vibrations and noise. Thus the noise level is reduced down by 5 dBA, meaning a reduction of 1/3.

Since 1981 this coupling has proved its worth in numerous applications. It was tha first coupling of its kind with vulcanized inner hub and tooth engagement on the outer hub.
This coupling has been developed following intensive research, for following application area: drives which are subject to torsional vibrations, specially on diesel driven engines and are required to run over a wide speed range from low idling to full engine speed, free of dangerous resonances.
CENTAMAX couplings are amongst the highest torsionally elastic couplings available on the market. Furthermore it has a linear characteristic, meaning resonances are not shifted by load, which is important for sets required for misfiring conditions.

This ingenious new design results is a very simple, highly flexible, low cost and easy to assemble link coupling. It compensates large axial, radial and angular misalignments. At the same time it dampens noise as the transmission is interrupted in four places by rubber bushes. The coupling is free of backlash, torsionally stiff, free of maintenance, free of wear and easy visual check of the condition of the rubber bushes, easy and fast exchange of the links is possible without special tools.
